OSK Cruise Line Brasil Maru Green Glass Powder Pin Box
Some research shows this glass container is connected to the Brasil Maru Luxury Liner, OSK lines. Brasil Maru was a Japanese luxury ocean liner built in 1939. It carried passengers in world ports for a very short while before World War II. Following the start of the war, the Japanese government commandeered the ship and made it a troop transport. It was in that capacity that the ship was torpedoed and sunk by the American government Submarine USS Greening of Truk Lagoon on August 5, 1942.
Glass box measures approximately 3 3/8" x 1 1/2' tall made from a marbleized and partially frosted glass resembling malachite stone. The lid has a raised surface with two ornate fans. The interior of the box is marked Brasil Maru, O.S.K. lines Made in Japan.
In excellent pre-owned vintage condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. There is a dark swirl line on the bottom. It must be a production mark. The glass is smooth.
