Description
VINTAGE (1700s) IRON NAVAL BOARDING PIKE / BOAT HOOK HEAD.
This interesting piece of sailing combat history is just over 7.25" overall with a 3.5" spike. During its working life it would have been attached to a fairly long wooden handle. These were used as combination boarding hooks and fighting pikes during the sailing days of naval battle. It weighs 9 ounces
and dates back to the 1700s
.
As you see in the photos, it has some age and salt water damage, especially to the hook.
This is out of Edinburgh, Scotland, from a naval maritime collection.
