Description
VINTAGE (1700s) IRON NAVAL BOARDING PIKE / BOAT HOOK HEAD.
This interesting piece of sailing combat history is just about 11" overall with a 3" spike and a 3" hook. During its working life it would have been attached to a fairly long wooden handle
to reach across to the ship being boarded or the sailors defending it
. These were used as combination boarding hooks and fighting pikes during the sailing days of wood ship naval battles. It weighs 13.5 ounces
and dates back to the 1700s
.
This is out of Edinburgh, Scotland, from a naval maritime collection.
