Description
These two great bits of steamship memorabilia recall the glory days of transatlantic travel. The unused postcard depicts the SWEDISH AMERICAN LINE motorliner GRIPSOLM which had been built in 1925 and was sold in 1954. Subsequently it was scrapped and so many memories disappeared with it. In addition to transatlantic service the ship operated cruises and on one of them this small cobalt blue vase was part of one stateroom's décor. It was made by RORSTRAND and is so marked on the bottom. The three crowns logo of SWEDISH AMERICAN LINE is done in gold on one side of the vase and the rim is in gold as well. It measures 2 1/4 inches tall and the opening at the top measures 2 3/4 inches by 2 inches. If it was not used to hold flowers it probably held cigarettes because those were the days when everyone smoked. The post card which is unused depicts the gracious liner at sea. Both of these wonderful collectibles are in excellent condition.
