Description

Two matching light fixtures from a First Class Cabin on board ss United States, ca. 1952. Made of, you guessed it, aluminum. Fixtures measure 25 1/4" length, and 10 1/2" from end of shade holders left and right. Rewiring will be needed. The fixtures are very stylish and sleek in brushed silver finish, and have horizontal decorative bands that when removed, reveal the screw holes to fix the bracket to a wall. Identical fixtures can be seen in many promotional photos of the liner's interiors. One fixture has a very small area broken off from rear corner of its switch plate area. The fixtures show wear, scratches and paint residue, but overall what I consider great condition. Some of the bulb sockets have been replaced, and one of those is missing its outer cover. One light fixture has three bulb sockets, the other has two, as made. The light fixtures do not have any maker's marks, but do have some pencil notations, but faint and hard to see. I think they are "RW" ??? "S71"???, but I can't say for sure. These fixtures have been in storage for about 25+ years and are being sold "as is". Originally bought by seller from Ken Schultz, a maritime ocean liner memorabilia dealer. I am including only one original shade (without fabric covering), again, as bought. Shade frame measures 10 1/2" diameter x 9" height.
