Cruise Ship Room Key, S. S. Del Mar, Delta Line Cargo/Cruise Ship SouvenirThe Mississippi Shipping Company of New Orleans introduced three revolutionary passenger-cargo ships to its South American services in the post-war years of the 1940s. In keeping with the company trade name, “Delta Line”, their three new ships were all given “Del” names. Thus the ships were named SS Del Norte, SS Del Sud and SS Del Mar, and they were without a doubt the most distinctive and revolutionary vessels in their time: 1946 - 1967.
It seems like the passenger in Del Mar room A37 wanted a souvenir. This one has been banged around a little bit, but the dents on the front seem like they were there before the printing was stamped. Regardless, it’s in pretty good condition. Some of the ink has rubbed off the lettering, but the words are clear and easy to read.
The tag is made from aluminum and is about 2 1/2” high by about 2 1/2” wide.
This is a very unusual piece for cruise ship collectors. I’m in the process of listing several other Delta Line souvenirs, so keep watching!!
