  • Country/Region of Manufacture: Germany
  • Condition: I listed this as used solely because of its age. As the pictures show, there is some age related slight discoloration and fading on the covers, and the boards show some slight edge wear in places. However, the book is otherwise in excellent condition. The interior is like new with no torn or damaged pages, the binding is solid and there are no bumped corners on the boards.

    Description

This sale is for a very rare hardcover book titled
Ocean Express Norddeutscher LLoyd Turbine Express Liner "Bremen"
by Prof. F.A. Breuhaus de Groot. This book is the English Language version. It is 192 pages in length and was published by F Bruckmann AG in Germany when the ship went into service. The book has minimal text and is primarily focused on describing what is shown in the 194 illustrations and 21 color plates contained in the book, with much emphasis on showing the public
spaces, decorations, art work and furnishings.
However, in addition to the book's excellent physical condition, it is also unique in that it was signed by Captain Adolf Ahrens, who is famous for being the skipper who directed Bremen's "escape" from New York and safe return to Germany after the start of World War II. The book also contains a Souvenir Log Card for an October 1935 trip from New York to Bremerhaven, which presumably was when Captain signed and presented this copy of the book to the passenger. I acquired the book years ago through a book dealer friend, and it has always
been kept in a glass fronted bookcase in an air conditioned, smoke free home. It will be packed in a sturdy cardboard box and protected with bubblewrap and/or styrofoam popcorn as necessary to protect it.
The book will be shipped by either USPS Media Mail or Priority Mail, as selected by the buyer. If not satisfied for any reason, it may be returned at the buyer's expense within 30 days. The purchaser will receive a full refund, less the original shipping charge, as long as the book is returned in the same condition in which it was shipped.
PayPal is the preferred form of payment. I always ship promptly, and since payment is electronic I expect payment within two days of the auction's end.
