Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company
of London, simply and better known as the
P & O
.
Heavy ironstone piece with no decoration at all, jusr plain white body top marked in black color with the fanous
P & O
rising sun with motto
Quis Separabit
abd the house flags of the four conpanies forming the
P & O
group:
New Zealand Shipping Company
,
P & O
,
British India Steam Navigation Company
and
Union Line of New Zealand
.
The plate is heavy ironstone as said and measures nearly 10" in diameter ( Cm. 25 ). Manufactured by
Ashworth Bros
in their
Real Ironstone China
production.
Excellent condition as evidenced by the attached scans with no chips, cracks, hair lines, restorations or other visible faults.
Since British India was the last company to join the group in 1914 I'd date the plate around that time or very early 1920's.
