Description
Nice large old travel poster print of the S.S. Hamburg steamship under glass with wooden frame. Artist’s name shown as “ K. Franz “ in the lower left hand corner with “ 29 “ underneath it. Probably for 1929. In the lower right hand corner it reads “ S.S. Hamburg ” and “ Hamburg – American Line “.Wooden frame measures 32” wide x 23-1/2” high.
Glass section measures 29-1/2” wide x 21-1/8” high.
The print displays no defects. The old wood frame is probably original and shows some areas of wear and paint loss but is in overall good condition. The frame looks like it was painted with some sort of gold colored paint and you see red paint underneath in some areas and a greenish tone on top of the gold in another area. Nice old vintage age to it.
The SS Hamburg was built by the German shipbuilding and engineering company Blohm & Voss of Hamburg, Germany. She was originally owned and operated as an ocean liner by the Hamburg America Line, launched in 1925. She was then used by Germany during World War II and sunk by a mine in 1945. The Soviet Union salvaged the ship in 1950 and began using her as a whaler in 1960, scrapping her in 1977.
