I won't say the American Army or Navy were lazy, but they were taking advantage of leftover ship's souvenirs when they seized the Kronprinzessin Cecilie and used her as a troop ship and hospital ship.
This is an embroidered silk souvenir hankerchief that was sold aboard ship to soldiers going over, or more than likely, coming back home after the war or during the war when they were wounded.  I've seen these exact same hankies with the exact same artwork in the middle that say Kronprinzessin Cecilie on them, so, I suspect the Army had them copied and changed the name on the ship for its WWI service or somehow had he prewar German ones modified.  Very nice quality, appears to be silk, very lightweight, not many of these have survived.  Has one small bit of wear at lower right corner, but otherwise excellent condition.
