    Description
    I just purchased this antique Japanese porcelain ginger jar from a local estate here in Central Virginia. The jar is characteristic of the blue transfer ware produced by a number of kilns in the Arita region during the late Meiji (1868-1913), early Taisho periods (1913-1926). The piece is well executed in bright white porcelain with clean lines to the ovoid hand turned form with domed cap. The rich blue transfer features medallions with finely detailed garden scenes. The piece has a nice presence measuring 10" high and 6" in diameter. Both the jar and lid are in very good condition with the only issue being a superficial production firing line on the lid edge (very fine, looks like a 1/2" craze line). This striking ginger jar would make a nice addition to your collection of antique Japanese blue and white porcelains.
