Description
A compote (sometimes called a tazza) from the shipping company Grace Line. The compote was typically used to serve a variety of prepared fruit dishes but may have had other uses on the dining table of steamships in the pre WW2 period. The compote is about 7inch diameter and was manufactured by James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield. It is excellent condition; the silver bowl has a scratch in the well and 2 very small contact dings and light utensil marks that do not impact the overall appearance. The plating is fully intact. This will make a center piece for a collection of dinner ware from Grace or other steamship lines.
