COMPAGNIE SUD ATLANTIQUE SS LUTETIA PRE LAUNCH STERN VIEW LITHO PHOTO CARD
Item for auction a vintage 3.5” x 5.5” litho photo postcard in good condition of Compagnie Sud’s 3-funnel liner SS Lutetia, as she sits on the stocks prior to launch in 1913. Postally unused card has some wear and a little staining. A subtle crease makes for an equally subtle hairline just below the ship’s name on the stern in what is otherwise a clear and crisp litho image, which captures the ship’s dynamic form, including three of her four propeller shaft casings and bold curves of the still-rudderless stern, as workers grease the ways in preparation for the launch. She would serve on routes between France and South America throughout the 1920s into the 1930s when was was withdrawn from service and scrapped.
