    Description

Fan from French Line CruiseShip, Paper, mid-1800s
The COMPAGNIE GÉNÉRALE TRANSATLANTIQUE, known since the Belle Epoque as FRENCH LINE in the English speaking world (or TRANSAT or CGT), had its origins in 1861. Some of the French Line ships were the SS Normandie, SS French and SS Paris.
This fan was probably given to lady passengers on one of these ships. Considering it’s mostly paper, it’s in very good condition. It’s two sided, One is a nice pastel colored scenic picture and the other is in the mention of the French line and some decorative elements. The fan is quite old and shows wear along the top edge and a couple of small dings elsewhere. My guess is that the strips that hold everything together are celluloid. Check out the pictures carefully and if you have any questions please ask me before you bid. This fan was kept in a non-smoking home.
    Thanks for looking.
