    Description

This is a very lovely, Chinese, porcelain tea caddy with rectangular form and square lid.  I really don't know much about it.  It is decorated with very, very detailed, cloissone-style painting of flowers and butterflies.  You can see raised outline ridges that were expertly filled with glaze color. Like cloissonne, some of the glaze colors are shaded, going from peach to yellow within a single petal, for instance.  The work is extremely fine and detailed.  There is a very thick, opaque white glaze on the inside, and in contrast to the exquisite craftsmanship on the exterior glazing, the interior glazing is rather rough. See the last photo to see interior white glaze.  I have only seen this type of interior white glaze on old pieces, but I really have no idea how to date this tea caddy, or how to attribute it. I feel confident that it is earlier than 1930.  It is reminiscent of the
Qing Kangxi MK Famille Noire Black Ground Porcelain pieces, but not exactly like them either.
It is 6 3/4" high x 3.5" x 3.5" width.  It is in very good condition with no cracks or chips.  There is a
    little
wear to the glaze, and it looks like some of the wear to the black outer edges of the base has been touched up in the past.
It will be packed well and shipped USPS Priority.
