Description
30s SS BREMEN EUROPA Wind-up Tin Toy + BOX from 40s Post-War US Sector GermanyA KELLERMANN CKO TIN OCEAN LINER SHIP ATLANTIC No. 354 in ORIGINAL BOX,
MADE IN US ZONE GERMANY circa 1947. From the internet:
Toys marked with a "Made in US Zone Germany" text or "Made in Occupied Japan"
range in date from about 1945 until 1952.
Also note the underside by the prop marked Made in Germany, but not WEST Germany...so early
post-war.
The only aircraft launching ocean liners from the 1930's AND were also Blue Riband winners!
AS a bonus you also get a Custom STORAGE BOX for both the Toy and its Box -
SEPARATELY but TOGETHER eliminating the need to store it in its ORIGINAL Box.
I copied the original Box Art and pasted that on the Storage Box which also serves to add protection
during shipping. Acid free Tissue paper is provided (some shown) for wrapping both the boat and the
Orig. Box. ACID FREE IS A MUST to protect the 1940s paint from the foam supports (in top &
bottom)
AND protect the original box.
The ship is 13.5 inches long, beam is 2-1/8 at the widest, height from keel to top of stacks 2-3/16 inches.
Now the rudder post extends below the keel about 1/4 inch and the rudder extends about 1/4 inch
beyond the hull when it's amidships.
The large dual box is nominally 14.5 long x 5-1/2 wide x 3-1/8 high INCHES.
I list this toy as the BREMEN / EUROPA (of the 1930's) because of the overall configuration and LITHO
presentation (especially considering the aircraft catapult and the funnel silhouettes).
In VERY GOOD condition: a 40s Tin TOY with ORIGINAL BOX - only the KEY is a replacement.
The KEY fits the WU shaft perfectly but if pushed on the shaft completely it strikes the
FUNNEL's upper edges (you CAN wind it but BEST NOT to FULLY push it on == OR just remove the funnel).
I show that aft funnel loose (it kinda SNAPS in place and is easily removed and re-installed without
bending tabs or affecting presentation of the model - that's how I got it). However there are MINOR
scrapes on the funnel from winding w that replacement Key.
So if playing with this Toy is planned, expect to REPLACE or modify the KEY.
The box is AMAZING - #1 that its present at all - #2 condition - only minor tears in the flap hinge areas,
color bright, flaps on tight.
I have spent my limit on PICS to show the paint condition around the ship, please use them to
judge for yourself the condition of the model. I have shown the WORST of them, which can be
attributed mostly to playwear and handling over the last 70 years...so in my mind NOT BAD at all.
The MINOR playwear (please inspect the pics):
on the funnels (especially the aft removable one which covers the winder)
the very end points of the bow and stern
paint loss on the INSIDE ONLY of the Port Bridge wing (looks like a manufacturing issue)
the Bottom: surface blemishes and lots of light surface scratches; missing paint around the rudder
shaft and on
a spot forward on the raised keel; along the turn of the bilge (likely from often
setting it down).
No indication of it ever been floated, so if it was...it survived spectacularly....you'd need to remove
the deck to inspect for water intrusion - maybe best LATER to perhaps service the motor - but
that's a long way off. MOTOR WORKS PERFECTLY. I've never "launched" it, but I would expect
SUPER results.....might even win the Bathtub Blue Ribband as the prop REALLY SPINS WELL!!!
BREMEN was Transatlantic Ocean Liner Blue Riband winner! Maybe that the reason for the TOY's
Name - ATLANTIC.
