    Description

This 1967 MGB GT Special was one of 1,000 sold by U.S. retailers to commemorate the first anniversary of the model, offering a package of several no-cost options including wire wheels, leather upholstery, and front fender badging. “racing mirrors” (fender mounted and still in place) were also part of the special package, which was never catalogued by the factory as a separate model. Some sources indicate that the added equipment was sent to dealers in kit form, enabling the items to be added to any in-stock MGB GT.
This particular ‘67 MGB GT limited edition is a car that was stored in a climate-controlled environment for many years. The engine and driveline were removed in anticipation of the cars owner completing a mechanical restoration on a very solid, example of a limited MGB GT Special retaining its original badging and features as offered on the limited-edition GT. The odometer shows 22,484 but cannot be guaranteed due to the age of the car. However, the previous owner indicated that the mileage is correct based to the cars long time storage and minimal use. The MGB wears bias-ply tires further supporting the cars long time storage and limited use over the course of many years.
As the photos reflect, the MGB lacks the typical rust often seen in floor pan, rocker panels, and other areas prone to rot/rust, especially on cars in inclement weather regions of the country. The underside shows a light patina of surface rust with solid suspension mounting points, a no damage trunk free from rust through, and no indications of front end or other accident damage over the course of the cars 50+ years. Panel fit is good and consistent with the quality of production for this era with no indication of previous or current accident damage. The car retains its correct / original factory alloy bonnet that has several indentations that cannot be seen in the photographs. The exterior brightwork is good and free from surface rust or major damage. Normal minor dings can be found on some of the horizontal trim on the body. The MG has received on respray in its factory correct BRG (British Racing Green) over black interior with white seat piping. The headliner was re-done, reportedly in the 1970’s in a gray color with “buttons.” The interior remains in nice condition including the seats, door panels, rear seat, and carpet (some of which has become unglued in some areas and can be seen in the photos). The gauges are factory correct and the wood limited edition steering wheel is complete and in very nice original condition. The dealer-installed BMC AM radio remains in the dash. This car was going to be the last project of a long time British enthusiast who deemed the car and excellent candidate for a light restoration.
The extensive parts will add to the appeal of the car and the ease of completing the necessary work (shown in the photos). It is offered with a clear California title on “Non-Op” status with no back fees. Circumstances are such that we have decided to offer the car on a no reserve basis so it will sell to the highest bidder. I have a several additional photos that we will gladly share on request but are limited by the space allotted by eBay. Also, while transport is ultimately the responsibility of the new owner, we will be glad to assist in any way including help with providing names of previously used transport companies.
The MG is stored in Livermore, approximately 30 miles from San Jose, Ca and 40 miles from San Francisco. The car rolls and steers and many of the parts can be put in the car. However, there a few larger components including two engine and a transmission that will not fit in the car.
