    The Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, typically known overseas as the French Line, was a shipping company. One of the ocean liners operated by the French Line was the SS Liberté, which had been acquired from the German shipping company Norddeutsche Lloyd where it had been named the SS Europa. Built in 1927, it was scrapped in 1963. For auction is a breakfast menu from the SS Liberté. While undated, it is from a cruise in August 1952. It included selections fruit and juice; jams and marmalades; cereal; soup; eggs; fish; bacon and sausage; cold ham; bread and cakes; and beverages. The rendering on the front is of the schooner "The Sphinx".

    The
    Compagnie Générale Transatlantique
    , typically known overseas as the
    French Line
    , was a shipping company established in 1861 as an attempt to revive the French merchant marine. Other than operating ocean liners, the company also had a significant fleet of freighters. The company survived both World Wars, but the development of jet travel doomed its mainstay passenger liner business. In 1977, the company merged with the Compagnie des Messageries Maratimes to form the Compagnie Générale Maritime . Then, in 1996, the company Compagnie Générale Maritime merged to form the CMA CGM.
    One of the ocean liners operated by the French Line was the

    Liberté
    ,
    which had been
