    Description

French Line - A very rare LIBERTE biscuit tin from around her 1950 maiden voyage.
The 22" long tin features the ship's name on the bow and lithographed graphics showing portholes, lifeboats, and deck details. The 10" long superstructure lifts out and has a hinged lid. Look closely and you'll discover that the lithographed features represent the NORMANDIE, from the wishbone-shaped wave break on the bow to the zigzag wind screens on the stern.
French bakery Galettes St. Michel offered the NORMANDIE tin in the 1930s and printed their name on the sides of the lift-out box. This one is unmarked as to distributor.
But some enterprising firm switched out the names on the bow and removed the center funnel. Voila! A LIBERTE biscuit tin ready for market.
Very good condition with a few light scrapes and dents.
