    Description

    A handsome model of a handsome ship, the Hamburg American Line's SS AMERIKA of 1905. Used and in perfect condition.
    Built by Harland & Wolff in Ireland, the AMERIKA was the last large German liner to be built outside of Germany. Interned in New York at the outbreak of World War I, she was taken over by the US and served as a troop transport for the US Army, became a liner again (AMERICA for the United States Lines), was laid up during the Depression, served as a troop transport again during World War II, was laid up again and finally broken up in the late 1950's in Baltimore.
